Reasons Why You Don’t Need Windows Defender
Windows Defender is a antispyware protection software from Microsoft. It also comes with your Vista installation, but why do other people prefer third party antispyware protections? Here are some of the reasons why Microsoft Windows Defender is not good enough to protect your computer against spywares.
- It’s runs a little slow than it’s counter part spyware protection software. Tested it against other software and it’s beaten hands down. The scanning sometimes took 8 hours to finish.
- Failed to detect and defend against many spywares. There are individuals and companies that tested Windows defender reliability in detecting spywares but it failed to detect not more than 60% of the junk files.
- Has problems removing junk files that it detects. When it detects 50 spywares out of 100 only 25 are removed.
- Does not offer daily updates. Microsoft Windows Defender only provides weekly updates sometimes every two weeks. There are estimately 100+ spywares that spring out everyday, I think we all cannot wait for two weeks before they gives us a signature update.
- No free reliable help or support available. You are just stuck with it’s Help feature which can’t provide a good solution to the problem. If you require a much more high level of support other than installation and configuration you have to pay Microsoft for the support that they will provide.
- Too many error messages. For instance it will give you an error message of your definitions not being up to date even if you just update it an hour before.
- Not that user friendly like it should be.
- Has missing scanning features and has less options available and unlike any other third party antisypware software. .
- Has compatibility issues with some certain programs that results to tons of unexpected errors and headaches.

I get annoyed by this spyware protection from Microsoft. it’s simply useless.
If I remember it right Windows Defender can also be using with XP systems. However, there are always better alternative software than the bloatware that Microsoft always offer to users.

yeah… Microsoft have Windows Defender for XP. I thought it will improve with the one that comes with Vista, but it seems to be that it is the same old crap antispyware.

Yeah your right. Actually, I don’t really hate Microsoft Defender, I just don’t like it’s incompetencies. It failed on all aspect especially on the updating feature.

Yes, there is a XP version for Windows Defender but both failed in terms of reliability. However, the XP version is a lot more easier to use than the Vista version.

Windows Vista provides high level of security measures. Windows Vista that comes with Internet Explorer which is version 7.0 provides a higher degree of security to the system, as well as, the operating system environment.
I guess windows defender is not upto the mark.It is better to use other third party software instead of windows defender

I think windows defender have lots of things to be added on. Because it provide less security as compare to other antispam softwares and also it have very less features.

I agree with that the main disadvantage of defender is it can potentially increase the chances that a non-malicious program is flagged as malicious. With heuristics, there is always a potential risk for a “False Positive” when the heuristic analysis flags a file as suspicious or infected that contains no malware.
I do not know that much about computers but I know enough. I have windows defender on my computer and all of a sudden it stopped working. My windows update stopped updating (last update March 21st). I am running windows Vista off a laptop i bought a few months ago. My computer runs fine for the most part, but all i wanna do is be able to play Bodog poker, and it wont run and im wodering if windows defender is stopping it. Every time i start my computer is says Error 0×800106ba.please help, and please do not give me any scientific stuff i wont understand. Thanks.
You have a damaged registry, try to fix it using a reliable registry fixer or repair it using your windows installation cd.
i have windows firewall as well as avg free edition, my friend told me that i can turn off windows defender because i already have the firewall, doesn’t make sense to me, who is right? Thanks for this useful information.
Any AV or spyware scanner from Windows is not reliable. So why do we still settle for Windows…?

I think window Defender is Absolutely safe!!! But Spybot Search and destroy would be a better option rather than Win Defender!!!
