It is always a great recommendation to have an antivirus with virus, worm and trojan protection. If you are frequently doing sensitive transactions online like banking and shopping a reliable internet security is a must.

There are some helpful tips in this post, but I think it would’ve been a good idea to put in your personal recommendations for an Anti-Virus Software.
I think all the points that you mentioned here are checked by almost all users while purchasing a good antivirus program But the difference is only that you post all these in information in a systematic way means step by step or priority basis & i think all the points are remarkable & of good quality

when you have many viruses in the computer you need an anti virus. There are many options available for the users but every product have limitations. so what we need depends on the viruses present in the computer but a anti virus must be such that it must not decrease the performance of the computer.

all antivirus is ok to me if it is updated. but the best one I choose is the avast antivirus.
For me the best antivirus is Kaspersky. They have the most updated viruses base and is not overloading the system.

yes surely a anti virus must have all the features described above because good anti virus must be so much capable that it must fulfill all the requirements of a user. It must be reliable.
i’m still using kaspersky at my PC to secure my system from alot of new virus, just make sure update your database daily

Thanks a lot for the advice. I’ve been using my current anti-virus software for a while now and it has worked well, but I’m interested in finding something else that won’t cost as much. You’ve made some great points for me to look at before making a final decision.
its never the antivirus tha tgives a good experience, its’ the user.
try NOT to use internet explorer, its’ a magnet for viruses
stay away from i’llegal sites.
try to use opera complete browser.
and don’t open any usb drive without going to cmd, and typing attrib, its’ gonna show you some of the nastiest viruses.

You can download avg free anti virus because its very good anti virus and i have used it for a number of years now with no problem . Unlike Norton and various “others”it does not slow your computer
Good tip and I have used AVG Anti Virus, Spy-bot Search and Destroy a spy ware killer for years.
I agree with some other comments here that NOD32 is great. I also like Comodo, but when I switched to Vista, it cause me all kinds of headaches. Good article, thanks.

I agree with that. A good antivirus program must contain the above said features(effectiveness, user friendly, virus definition and scanning engine updates, real-time scanning system resources consumption etc)
But the main factors that distinguish a good anti virus program is the “virus definition and scanning engine updates” because viruses are generated frequently
